AFI w/ Gallows

Hardcore punk revivalists AFI originally formed in 1991, when the band's four founding members were attending high school. AFI released their eighth studio album, Crash Love, in 2009. Produced by Joe McGrath and Jacknife Lee with the band, the new album is AFI's most confident, enjoyable album yet. Though there remain echoes of the Cure, the Smiths and many other morose pop heroes from the 1980s, the result feels more organic now, rooted in the genuinely bleak and hopeless rather than the simply theatrical sounds of My Chemical Romance. The music of AFI wasn't always as daring as its fashion sense, but the NoCal band has grown with accelerating sophistication, stepping further beyond easy pop-punk thrashings to something grander, with music to match the mopey melodrama of Havok's words.

Local H with Kinch & Murdocks (Inside)

Best-known for their unorthodox two-man lineup, the Chicago-based hard rock act Local H has made a career out of straddling the fine line between indie and classic rock, cleverly framing their sardonic lyrics with a generous helping of power chords and feedback. Rock critic and Rolling Stone contributor Greg Kot named the band its 2008 Chicago band of the year, calling them "as good a rock band as any to call Chicago home in the last decade." Online Metacritic calls Local H "rock’s greatest unknown two-man band" and says of their newest album, 12 Angry Months, "the ten year anniversary of Pack Up the Cats marks not some complacent CD reissue with bonus tracks, but rather a great new album that flips the bird to anyone who thought Local H was history along with their era."

LYLE LOVETT AND HIS LARGE BAND

Click "I Like It!" for a chance to win free tickets!

Four-time Grammy Award winner Lyle Lovett is equally comfortable in pop, rock, blues and country. Born just outside Houston, Lovett is one of America’s great songwriters and has a gift for big band arrangements that has no precedent among his contemporaries. He also displays a literary talent that has made him part of the tradition of American ironists.

While music should be and is open for interpretation by the listener, Lovett’s new album, IT’S NOT BIG IT’S LARGE, suggests notions of mortality, loss and the fluidity of time. That sounds like heavy-going, but its Lovett’s gift to make the deep thoughts slide down like honey.

Neko Case w/ Oh No Oh My - Benefit for Austin Food Bank

Alternative country singer-songwriter Neko Case won a steadily growing cult audience for her smoky, sophisticated vocals and the downcast beauty of her music. Neko Case's voice often brings to mind women ranging from Natalie Merchant to Patsy Cline, but her music is like a combination of Townes Van Zandt, Johnny Cash, and Tori Amos. She released her solo debut, The Virginian, in 1997, delving wholeheartedly into traditional country via a mix of covers and originals. Since then, she has released several other studio albums, including 2006's Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, a live album recorded on the Austin City Limits Television series, and her fifth studio album in 2009's Middle Cyclone. She also plays with the New Pornographers and other artists, such as Nick Cave, Great Big Sea, and The Corn Sisters - an old time country duo with fellow Seattleite Carolyn Mark.
