Gogol Bordello made its name with spastic live shows led by frontman Eugene Hutz—who took a star-turn as an actor in 2005’s Everything Is Illuminated —and a lineup fleshed out with violin, accordion, guitar, saxophone, drums, and writhing dancers. The self-described gypsy-punk cabaret sound is wild and chaotic, like an Eastern European take on The Pogues or Tom Waits. It works well on albums such as this year’s Super Taranta!, but it takes on a whole other dimension of dementia live. Opening: Dub Trio, DJ Dubta.
The only thing more depressing than the holidays are the days lingering between Christmas and the new year, but Emo’s leaves the lights up for a pair of locals, slurring blues-rock stompers the Black and neon swaying Red Leaves.read more at AustinChronicle.com
