A Few Nice Things

HOMETOWN:
AUSTIN, Texas

Southern hippie rock never sounded — or looked — as good as when the local five-piece A Few Nice Things take to the stage. Composed of ex-members of the Vain (one of Austin's premiere forgone fashion-rock bands) and the Shells (an indie-pop outfit), A Few Nice Things may bear some physical semblance to Chris Robinson and the Black Crowes but, trust us, this group has a nitty-gritty Southern sound all its own. Incorporating style and rock 'n' roll with a straight shot of sexual appeal. — Shannon McGarvey (www.austin360.com)If A Few Nice Things had been around town then, and someone slipped them on the Dazed and Confused soundtrack, nobody would have been the wiser. All they need are groupies and a shark, and they’ll be in the same league as our classic rock heroes. - www.austinme.com  Squint your eyes and the local five-piece A Few Nice Things looks a bit like a vamped-out version of the Black Crowes. Vocalist Jesse Huffman, formerly Jesse "Vain" of the now defunct band the Vain, has a resemblance to Chris Robinson, what with his long black hair, swaddling gypsy scarves and sheaths of form-fitting black clothing. Why are these elements worth mentioning? Because A Few Nice Things are one of a few local bands whose looks closely reflect their sound. If you guessed strung-out Southern blues rock, you're spot on. — Shannon McGarvey (www.austin360.com)
