Siblings Angus & Julia Stone come from Newport, Australia. Angus and Julia’s decision to collaborate was taken at the beginning of 2006. Prior to that, both had performed as solo artists at open mic nights but utilised the other as a backing partner. Ultimately they came up with the same idea, “Why don’t we play together? It kind of made a lot of sense”. In terms of composing the material, they write on their own, then work together on structure and harmonies. This homespun ethic extends to their self-directed videos and artwork too. Mitchell Connelly acts as the band’s official photographer and his brother IOSHVA looks after their website and artwork. www.angusandjuliastone.com www.myspace.com/angusandjuliastone www.youtube.com/angusandjuliastone Listen at Last.fm

<comment>This pair shares out the lead vocal duties almost as equally as they no doubt doled out sweets between them when they were younger. Angus opens up A Book Like This with a stirring and spirited folk vocal nudge featuring an endearingly laboured lag, ‘The Beast’. Immediately, through subtle guitar stirring and Julia’s Bjork-esque atmospheric backing, you’re lured up into a space above our world where both you and they can sit in judgement on violence and selfishness.

<comment>Angus and Julia Stone are relatively fresh on the scene and are creating some fine new songs. They manage to do this without the usual affectation and pretentiousness that worries a few of the "artier" independant performers and bands - they tread a fine line but manage to avoid embarrassing cliche. more at www.amazon.com</comment>
