Buscando el Monte was founded by Cuban-born percussionist, stilt-walker, and puppeteer, our artistic director, Leonel Rojas Esteves. With a powerful dream in his heart, he has come to Texas to be a musical bridge from La Habana Vieja to East Austin. With Martin Perna (founder of Antibalas) as musical co-director, the group creates a fusion of traditional Cuban songs, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and American jazz melodies that communicate with the heart of the World. Each performance of Buscando el Monte truly is a spiritual journey. We send the sweating mass of a dance floor into a trance of melody and rhythm. Buscando el Monte invites you to be a part of our wonderful energy, to experience us live and in person. Our performances are a chance for our unique music to affect your soul.
