For such a relatively young band, Dance Gavin Dance has had some seismic lineup changes. Since releasing its first EP, Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean, in 2006, the Sacramento outfit has shed members like dead skin. more at austin.decider.com

Dallas combo Fair To Midland’s approach to convoluted, proggy hard rock is more easily digestible than some of its peers’, and the group even lets a rare bit of finesse show through on last year’s Fables From A Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True. The nimble guitar work doesn’t completely drown in distortion, and the warped song structures manage to surprise once in a while. But these distinctions might not be enough to win over listeners who don’t already unconditionally love this kind of metal. Downtown Battle Mountain, the latest disc from California’s Dance Gavin Dance, is rife with the soaring, sensitive mix of delicate croons and blood-barfing screams that typified screamo at the beginning of the millennium. Opening: Dr. Manhattan.

Funny song titles, Christina Aguilera gone hardcore, dinosaurs and robots, and the most hooking guitars ever. Regardless of whether or not they did really invent Times New Roman, this is one of the most enticing releases ever released by Rise Records and probably the only band that could get away with writing lyrics such as "Brontosaurus tracks, relax" and singing songs about exploding. They have a delicious delivery, essentially. more at www.musicemissions.com
