Dirtblonde are an exciting Liverpool band, far from the retro 60’s sound that Merseyside is known for. Instead, they seek inspiration in the darker, more exciting side of rock’n’roll – the noise of The Jesus And Mary Chain; the intensity of PJ Harvey; the fresh-faced attitude of early NYC punk and buzzsaw guitars of Sonic Youth. Their online-only debut single ‘The Hangmen’ got rave reviews and had Radio One airplay thanks to Steve Lamacq and Alan McGee. Martin Carr (Brave Captain/ Boo Radleys) is another fan, and made a remix of one of their songs – his ‘Wake Up Liverpool Mix’ of ‘Niagara’ is available on the band’s website. John Kennedy also played “The Hangmen” on XFM, and dubbed it “one of the loudest records of the year so far.” Dirtblonde ran a monthly club night at Korova, called F*CK, which further bolstered their profile. It proved to be one of the most unique and exciting club nights in the city, attracting guests such as James Endeacott (ex-Rough Trade A&R) and The View, who had their first headlining gig in Liverpool thanks to Dirtblonde. The band played at the Carling Weekend Leeds Festival last summer and finished 2006 with a mini-tour in New York, which included a gig at Death Disco NYC. www.dirtblonde.co.uk Listen at Last.fm
