Though they like to keep the make up of Gnarls Barkley shrouded in mystery, most people know the two men behind the down-tempo hip-hop supergroup are none other than Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo. Within a few months after their debut single, Crazy, took the UK by storm, Gnarls Barkley -- which combines soulful, southern vocals with edgy, hip-hop beats -- has already gotten a reputation for being quite a wild stage act. Promo shots had them dressed as characters from A Clockwork Orange, while their set at Choachella in April (their first official live show) featured Sgt. Pepper-style band gear. the group's pedigree is solid gold, with Cee-Lo a former member of rap troupe Goodie Mob and Danger Mouse having turned the industry on hits heaed with the Grey Album -- a cross between jay Z's black album and The Beatles' white one. But their debut together under the Gnarles Barkley moniker, St. Elsewhere, may well prove to be their crowning achievement to date. Every song on this exhilarating debut, observed the Los Angeles Times, is almost as good as its first hit, 'Crazy." That's saying a lot.
