Golem
Hometown: New York NY
Golem is a New York City-based 6-piece klezmer rock band performing original tunes as well as traditional melodies in Yiddish, Ladino, or even Slavic langauges. Golem’s chief fan base of American 20- and 30-year-olds shows this self-described “Eastern European folk-punk band” to be on the forefront of a revival of Jewish culture in popular music typified by performers like Hasidic raggae star (and JDub co-labelist) Matisyahu. They were founded in 2001 by Annette Ezekiel and current members include Annette Ezekiel, Aaron Diskin, Alicia Jo Rabins, Curtis Hasselbring, Taylor Bergren-Chrisman and Tim Monaghan. Albums include Golem, Golem (debut EP) (2001), Libeshmertzn (2002), Homesick Songs (2004), Fresh Off Boat (2006) and Citizen Boris (2009). 3. An obscure instrumental Krautrock band from the 70s. Ecclectic, psychedelic epic rock with lot of Hammond organs, heavy drums and jamming guitars. Their album Orion Awakes (1973) belongs to Pyramid Records archives. Amazing, catchy improvised free spacey rockin’ trip that can reminds the best efforts delivered by early Pink Floyd, Gila, Dies Irae, Jane. 4. Chilean band 5. Dominican Republic Power Metal Band (DRPMB for short) Listen at Last.fm
Contrary to popular belief, Golem is neither a towering Jewish Frankenstein who defended the Jews of 17th Century Prague, nor a creature from Lord of the Rings. Golem is a 6 piece Eastern European folk-punk band.
