The Greyboy Allstars first formed almost 15 years ago to realize the vision of rare groove luminary DJ Greyboy: an original sound reminiscent of `70s soundtrack music. What Happened to Television? (April 17, 2007/SCI Fidelity), the group’s first studio album in nearly a decade, finds them reunited with Greyboy for the first time since their seminal 1995 breakthrough, West Coast Boogaloo. What Happened to Television? features all of The Greyboy Allstars’ original members: Hammond organist and keyboardist Robert Walter, guitarist/composer/producer Elgin Park (aka Michael Andrews), horn player Karl Denson, bassist Chris Stillwell and drummer Zak Najor. The album also includes contributions from Inara George and the vocal trio The Living Sisters (Eleni Mandell, Becky Stark and Inara George).

The members of The Greyboy Allstars, particularly keyboardist and Robert Walter and expansive saxophonist Karl Denson, have found as much success since the group’s “split” as they did while
still together. The solid, soulful jam band has reunited sporadically
over the past couple of years, but the reunion seems to have stuck,
first with live shows and later on last year’s What Happened To
Television?, the first Greyboy studio album since 1997. The sound
makes sense, as it saunters through new jazz-funk sounds that the Greyboys very much like to call “boogaloo.” Opening: Leon Mobley.
