Iceage, You're Nothing (CD) Turning on Iceage’s You’re Nothing at first feels like jumping headfirst into a cold pond. On openers “Ecstasy” and “Coalition,” the Danish band turns up the distortion to brutal levels and works itself into a frenzy of speedy hardcore riffs and singer Elias Bender Ronnenfelt’s anguished Ian Curtisesque wail. But Iceage’s post-punk fury is no monolithic sound, as its dynamic push and pull recalls My Bloody Valentine at their Isn’t Anything roughest, allowing songs to bend and turn at will but with a strong base and memorable hooks, like “In Haze’s” sudden textured guitars and pummeling chorus...more at amoeba.com

    Album "You're Nothing" scored 8.6

On Iceage's self-produced second album, they come off even younger, wilder, and more chaotic than on their 2011 debut, but also more experienced and nuanced. They've signed to Matador, and use their r...

    Iceage: "Coalition"

Photo by Pooneh Ghana The music of Iceage 's incendiary debut New Brigade felt created in the image of its album cover: charred black, ashy grays, smoldering reds. The first glimpse of You're Nothing is considerably brighter, something meant to spark a conflagration rather than document its aftermath. Iceage have always been anthemic, but "Coalition" showcases them at peak velocity: showy drum fills, windmilling guitar chords, and Elias Ronnenfeldt's vocals taking on an emotive wail rather than a blank bark. So what's gotten into him? Lest we forget the youth of Iceage, they're still very young men likely grappling with defining what love and...[from You're Nothing ; out 02/19/13 via Matador / Escho ]

    Iceage: "Broken Bone"

Iceage are a Wire-indebted punk outfit comprised of 18-to-20-year-olds from Copenhagen. As Altered Zones pointed out , they are, according to one Danish daily, a bunch of "teenage bullies full of anger and anxiety." That description is rooted in the sort of carnage they sow while performing, as they bloody up audience members they lovingly refer to as "victims," some of which they photograph for their blog . So while the title of "Broken Bone"-- a tightly-clenched standout from their ultra-promising full-length debut, New Brigade -- is fitting, the energy at play here is oddly connective. It feels less like... [from New Brigade , out June 21 on What's Your Rupture? ]
