Jamie Cullum is on his way to becoming the Frank Sinatra of the new millennium. With a fresh groove fused with a Rat-Pack swagger, Cullum mesmerizes any kind of audience. In his latest disc, Catching Tales, Cullum brings his soulful crooning to a new medium. Loose grooves and a thick vocal presence in the opening track “Get Your Way” belies Cullum’s youth. The disc is a huge leap from his pop-flavored jazz from his release from the previous year, Twentysomething. Catching Tales has a more authentic feel than his previous recordings, adapting his sound to reflect his growing maturity and the evolving sound of jazz today.
