Before reinventing themselves as the potent producer/DJ duo Simian Mobile Disco, London’s James Ford and James Anthony (aka Jas) Shaw honed their musical chops as half of the psychedelic indie-rock band Simian. Maybe that’s why their spin on electronic dance music — as showcased on Simian Mobile Disco’s acclaimed 2007 debut, Attack Decay Sustain Release — is characterized by an undeniably pop-friendly consciousness, with as much emphasis on punchy, hook-driven songcraft as experimental beats. Tracks like “Hustler” can shake a dance floor, but they sound just as potent on disc or rocking a festival crowd.

Not content with their roles in the band and wishing to indulge their long-time interest in electronic dance and party music, the two latched onto DJ gigs while touring with the band. more at www.allmusic.com

The return to SXSW of Bristol electro-remix duo James Ford and Jas Shaw guarantees at least one showcase that will leave your booty bouncing for weeks after. Their new Clock EP came out on Wichita Recordings, but the pair will forever be known as a core component in superchic French label Kitsuné's stable of mad geniuses hijacked from the UK. Godlike in all respects. – Marc Savlov
