The Jealous Sound
Hometown: Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA
The Jealous Sound is a Los Angeles indie rock band composed of vocalist and guitarist Blair Shehan (formerly of Knapsack), guitarist Pedro Benito (formerly Sunday’s Best), bassist John McGinnis, and drummer Adam Wade. Their first album The Jealous Sound EP was released in 2000. In 2003 they shopped around their demos for a follow-up to their 2000 release The Jealous Sound EP and were set to release an album on Mojo Records. Soon after their signing, Mojo parted ways with Universal leaving them without a distribution deal. Shuffled over to Mojo/Jive and with little interest in the band they decided to leave the label and return to Better Looking Records to record Kill Them With Kindness with producer Tim O’Heir. In 2005 they announced via their website that they had signed to The Militia Group for their follow-up to 2003’s Kill Them With Kindness which is to be produced again by Tim O’Heir. The official band website has not been updated since 2005, and rumor has spread that lead singer Blair Shehan has decided to quit the band. Variations on the rumor say that he has given up performing music. However, on June 1, 2006, the band posted a blog on their MySpace, commenting that work on their upcoming LP for The Militia Group is progressing. The band released their second EP, Got Friends, on iTunes on October 14, 2008. Listen at Last.fm

4 months agoThe Jealous Sound A Gentle Reminder [Subjective]
A Gentle Reminder is the second full-length album from The Jealous Sound in almost a decade, after the successful release of Kill Them With Kindness in 2003. The rigors of touring and promotion left front man Blair Shehan exhausted and out of inspiration. A reunion and tour supporting Sunny Day Real Estate in 2009 rekindled the love of rock and the band got back to work. Fans of The Jealous Sound and indie rock will not be disappointed.
A Gentle Reminder has a more subdued sound than Kill Them With Kindness but the powerful ascending chords trigger underlying feelings of hope in the music. “Beautiful Morning” stands out as the most poignant track on the album and is the perfect start to the narrative of The Jealous Sounds’ return. Even the thought process of the struggling artist reflects in the track titles – “Promise of The West,” “This Is Where It Starts,” “Perfect Timing.” I can even hear the air quotes of rebellion on “Change You” as Shehan sings the lyrics, “And they want to change you…” On first listen A Gentle Reminder is a solid rock album with powerful rock chords and strong vocals, but there is a more human side to the story. I encourage you to listen to the feeling under the words, for it is not only an artist’s struggle that we’re hearing, but the everyday struggle to find ourselves.
