Eighteen short months later, his brother Nicholas Saldana (keyboards, vocals) was born, providing all the heartbreak, bitterness and jealousy needed to spark any truly artistic endeavor. In high school, the Saldana brothers met their rhythm section - David Yelacic (bass), your run-of-the mill gargantuan hippy swimmer, and Louis Singh (drums), whose only mentionable blurb is that he was born to poor Vietnamese immigrants. Their story is much more compelling than his. But this army of four on stage behind their weapons of choice destroys like nothing you have ever heard. Visitors play a unique blend of rock-and-roll. Preliminary exit polls indicate 49% unbelievably soothing "rock" and 51% undeniably catchy "roll" - still too close to call. Their debut full-length Secrets, chock-full of catchy melodies and introspective lyricism, is suitable for freewheeling mornings and late evening reflection alike. Austin Chronicle recently name checked Basic by asking the simple question, "What's in a name? Well, Basic's name is appropriate: Three chords, bass, drums. Still, it's hard to pin down why the local trio's music is so infectious.
