The Von Bondies are a garage rock band from Detroit, Michigan. Around the turn of the century, Jason Stollsteimer attended a concert by Japanese rock & roll giants Guitar Wolf. At the time, Stollsteimer was working a job as a bowling alley bartender. The performance spurred him to create his own band, the Baby Killers. After recruiting Lauren Wilcox on bass, Marcie Bolen on rhythm guitar and Don Blum on drums the band changed their name to the Von Bondies. While playing a handful of shows in the Detroit area, the quartet recorded singles "It Came From Japan", an ode to Guitar Wolf, and "Nite Train". Jack White of The White Stripes along with the The Dirtbombs' Jim Diamond later produced the Von Bondies' debut album, "Lack of Communication", in late 2001. It was recorded in only three days. The Von Bondies have done 4 headlining tours of the UK, 2 of Australia, and 7 of the US. They also have appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, Last Call with Carson Daly and CD:UK. The Von Bondies released "Raw and Rare", a live record, through Dimmak Records in 2003. The Von Bondies released "Pawn Shoppe Heart" through Sire Records (known for signing such artists as Madonna, The Smiths, and The Ramones) in February of 2004 to positive reviews. It was produced by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads and co-produced by Jason Stollsteimer. Around the time of the record's release, Stollsteimer got into a fight with Jack White during the record release party for Detroit band Blanche. White was required to attend anger management classes, and pay a fine. A shortened version of their single "C'mon, C'mon" is the theme song to the TV series Rescue Me and is performed live by the band in Michael Winterbottom's film "9 Songs". The bands eagerly anticipated third album, entitled, "Love, Hate And Then There's You", is due for release in 2008.

Don’t look at frontman/guitarist Jason Stollsteimer to reprise his role as Jack White’s sparring partner, because this Detroit quintet’s future is all about hook-happy modern rock. With a new lineup, the Von Bondies’ new LP, Love, Hate and Then There’s You (Sire), and an Internet-only EP, We Are Kamikazes Aiming Straight for Your Heart, throw a left-right combo. – Dan Oko
