Two Two: a pas de deux (de deux) of comedy duos @ Salvage Vanguard Theater
Made up of Shana Merlin (Girls, Girls, Girls) and Shannon McCormick (Salvage Vanguard Theatre), Get Up never fails to entertain, regardless of the constitution of the crowd. Those that prefer their comedy broad and physical don’t always pick up on the subtly placed, New York Times-inspired commentary that Get Up somehow spins into every show, but there is little doubt that everyone leaves a Get Up show with their funny bone rocked. Add to the equation that Get Up is improvising that stuff (and that even those comedians with the highest improv batting averages will occasionally whiff), and the exceptional nature of Get Up’s talent becomes even more apparent. Through June 30th, they’ll be performing with a new local duo each Saturday night as part of Salvage Vanguard Theater’s Late Night Saturday series, currently titled Two Two: A pas de deux (de deux!) of comedy duos…more

THE BOTTLE ROCKETS @ Stubb's Bar-B-Q
Mice and Rifles had been receiving accolades around town even before they released their debut EP All Kites Up last winter. The album only further cemented their reputation as one of Austin’s best alt. country outfits, drawing a haunted and somber sound of American wastelands behind Kevin Brinkkoeter’s ominous voice and dark lyrics…

Awesome Cool Duded
Blogger Covert Curiosity raves about a SXSW performance by the Dudes: “Holy crap these guys put on a great show. All dressed head-to-toe in matching atheletic uniforms and belting out some of the funkiest dance inspired tunes that I’ve heard from any local act, the Awesome Cool Dudes make sure to have a good time when they plug in the keyboard…” http://covertcuriosity.blogspot.com/

AM Syndicate
The blog Austin Sound writes of AM Syndicate: “On their new Love EP, the group offers a much tighter and more mellow sound, but no less vibrant and ambitious…Watching the group perform is enthralling as the quartet produces such grandious arrangements that unfold a galloping post-rock swirl propelled by keys and a wide-ranging trans-national percussion…†http://www.austinsound.net/SOAMSyndicate

Del Castillo
Club Kingsnake blogger says Del Castillo’s SXSW performance “had the sound of a polished, pro rock band. Alex Ruiz is a consummate frontman. He’s sexy, and cocky, and his vocals were powerful. The del Castillo brothers, Rick and Mark, handle guitar duties in the band, and they impressed the hell out of me.” http://club.kingsnake.com/

He Was A Quiet Man @ Alamo Drafthouse Downtown
Lauren on Metroblogging Austin posted a positive review on this movie: “Then it was time for He Was A Quiet Man, a film about love and workplace violence, which was pretty great, but it wasn’t NEARLY as entertaining as the director’s rant against HD during the Q&A. You could practically hear the color drain out of people’s faces…” http://austin.metblogs.com/
