Artist: The Raveonettes Album: Lust Lust Lust Label: Vice Rating: Buy it >>

Lust Lust Lust opens with “Aly, Walk With Me,” a brooding, minor-key song in the style of the Raveonettes’ Whip it On EP. The rest of the album, however, is defined by the deadpan delivery of lyrics about heartbreak and disintegrating relationships over a warm, sparkling classic pop sound drenched in distortion. Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo sing most of the album in harmony, bringing the simplest and most repetitive of melodies to life as they sing lyrics like “that sparkle turned to black” and “I’m tied down to an evil heart” (on the delightfully catchy “Dead Sound” and “Blitzed,” respectively). The 1950′s confection “You Want the Candy” sounds at first like it may be the album’s only happy track, but it turns out the candy in question “tastes so sweet, makes good love bad” rather than the other way around. However, since The Raveonettes’ music is ultimately defined by the duo’s unmistakable sound, not their lyrics, Lust Lust Lust ends up being somewhat of a feel-good album despite the often depressing sentiments expressed on it.

The Raveonettes, Observator (CD) After spending the better part of a decade producing huge, wall-of-sound, Jesus & Mary Chain-style guitar noise, The Raveonettes continue the scaling back of their sound begun on the darker, unfairly maligned Raven in the Grave on Observator. Though it still eschews the campiness that marked much of The Raveonettes earlier work, Observator is a sunnier affair than Raven, full of sparkling guitarwork and Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo’s twinlike melodies. The beginning songs on Observator sound like...more at amoeba.com

The tidal wave of artists returning with a new album this fall includes the Raveonettes , who recently announced that their sixth studio album is slated for a release on Sept. 11 on Vice Records. To start the buzz for the new record "Observator," their first offering for fans is, appropriately, the track "Observations." Produced by the legendary Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, the Go-Gos), the gloom-chic track that has the piano as its anchor. But if you're worried about the Danish rock duo turning down the scorching shoegaze they're known for, you can stop right there. The guitars seep in more here

The Peter Kaaden-directed video for the Raveonettes ' latest single "She Owns the Streets" is a rather literal interpretation. But on a hot summer day like this, it's nice to see a clip where someone still owns their surroundings no matter the people or the location. The song brings the Danish duo back to their dream-pop strengths and provides a perfect musical backdrop for the story of a carefree New York street dancer. Lush, hazy and warm, the track is another one to add to your summer playlists. The album "Observator" is slated for a Sept. 11 release on more here

In the murky world of these Danish pop-noir fans, lust is something to be indulged, and if the result is a missing wallet and a hangover, there's still a pop tune to be had from it. Giving in to their appetites has given drowsy singer Sharin Foo and guitarist Sune Wagner the inspiration lacked by 2005's Pretty in Black album; reverb-soaked guitars are more sweetly ominous, Foo's come-hither vocals more disturbing, lullaby melodies more unwholesome. more at www.guardian.co.uk
