Hometown: Broooklyn, NY
Rocky Business are the leaders of the new wave in New York with a progressive, polished, unapologetic sound. From their 2010 debut they have infused all great music New York City has to offer. Their recipe of Hip-hop, nu-wave funk, electronic, and indie rock leaves you with the taste of the future from the melting pot of New York.
Mark Ronson has stated “Rocky Business are gifted songwriters with a grit to their sound” and music and lifestyle website Streetboners writes “F*cking ridiculous. One of the most dynamic shows I’ve ever seen. Crowd was jumping all over each other. Strictly Business, the lead rapper, and Jonny on the Rocks, singer/guitarist, are the perfect mix of seemingly clashing styles.”
Playing at major music venues from East Coast to West Coast to Down South; dance clubs to illegal loft parties, Rocky Business has also played many festivals such as Afro-Punk, Northside, SXSW CMJ and events in Europe, Mexico and Canada.
With notoriety in New York City’s underground downtown scene and buzz rattling up across music blogs, Rocky Business is gearing up for their 2011 Fall release “July’s Joy”. “July’s Joy” is a refined and cohesive EP showcasing Rocky Business’ matured sound while still maintaining the band’s edge. It’s a natural progression from earlier projects “A Rebel’s Roar” (EP), “White People Are Drug Dealers Too” (mixtape) and their breakout self-titled mixtape “Rocky Business”. With songs like “Army Of Love”, “Find Away”, “Kim Kardashian” (which shot to the top of Hypemachine charts) this band has been capturing people’s attention ever since their inception.
Rocky Business has hit the stage with artists such as Cee-lo, Janelle Monae, Diplo, GhostFace Killah, Redman, Travis Barker, Rick Ross, Wu-Tang Clan, Fishbone, Wiz Khalifa, Theophilus London, Maluca, Ninjasonik, and Death Set.
Their live performance is unrivaled and leaves illuminated audiences wondering why they haven’t heard anything like this before.
