This potent American folk rock five piece, from Portland, OR, have been highly praised for their strong songwriting and heartbreaking stories. And with reviews such as this one from Spoilt Victorian Child (UK) "full of stunningly beautiful moments that can make your heart melt or shatter into a million tiny pieces, often within the same softly sung line". Their album La Lamentor was packed full of Neil Young-influenced alt. country fit for rainy nights and front-porch smoking sessions. They will be releasing their new album Breaks In The Sun on April 21st on Badman Recording Co. and it’s filled with more of the same subtle brilliance. This time around, the band has moved away from their typically somber sound and added the more upbeat aesthetic of 70s-era radio. It’s breezier but still holds an atmosphere of melancholy. The songs are always intimate yet very much a product of a full-band effort and even the most stripped-down tracks are aided by subtle strings and pedal steel. Take a listen to the measured fragility of "Sunken Eyes" and mark April 21st on your calendar. Listen at Last.fm
