New York has Fashion Week,

Austin has Style By.

Style X (“pronounced “By”) is South by Southwest’s first-ever fashion discovery and pop-up retail showcase featuring emerging designers from all over the country. American Apparel and Keds are two special exhibitors joined the likes of Austin-based women’s brand Toxo-philite, New York-area eyewear company Tortoise & Blonde and Boston’s enviro-friendly line Proxy Apparel.  

Taking place on Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19 in the Austin Convention Center, Style X is free and open to the public from 3 to 9pm on Friday and noon to 9pm on Saturday. Along with photo booths, gift bag giveaways and runway shows featuring musicians on the runway, Style X is a SXSW fan’s shopping dream with everything from eyewear and watches to swimwear and handbags available to scoop up right in Downtown Austin.

Also, there are more than two dozen locally-owned boutiques where SXSW attendees and Austinites can spend $100 or more at throughout SXSW (beginning Friday, March 11) to gain entry into Style X one hour early on both Friday and Saturday. During this first hour, only boutique owners and official SXSW showcasing artists are allowed in.

From the 1960s through the ‘80s, Austin’s live music scene’s roots were firmly planted. In the ‘90’s and ‘00’s, the film and interactive industries followed with support from everyone from former Gov. Ann Richards to Facebook, who recently opened a new office in Downtown Austin. Now, in the 2010s, Austin’s fashion scene is coming of age with both men’s and women’s boutiques opening regularly along with a slew of vintage, sneaker and accessory shops as well.

Style By is where emerging fashion from around the world is showcased in front of the coolest and most buzz worthy creators of all things music, film and interactive.

But Style X will not only champion the emerging trends in Austin’s style sphere, but also the imaginative and noteworthy talents from across the globe. Debuting during the 25th Anniversary of South by Southwest Music, Style X is the next and natural evolution of the internationally-renowned festival and conference.

Style X includes a pop-up retail showcase that will serve as the official shopping experience of SXSW with dozens of brands from around the country bringing the latest designs in screenprinting and design, women’s, menswear, streetwear, swimwear and accessories. Also, Style By will host multiple fashion shows, each celebrating a different segment of style. Stay tuned for more information on the runway shows.

Music has always been a source for fashion trends and style and Style X is the world’s first event bringing those two together with a keen focus on the up-and-coming. Just as the music, film and technology makers reflect the innovative and creative capital of their respective industries, Style X will represent the inventive and inspired work of style makers from all over the world. They will be from places as far as Houston and Hong Kong and they will offer everything from eyeglasses and t-shirts to dresses and sneakers. The style will be by them, but this event will be for you.

What is Style X?

The show will take place on March 18 from 3-9pm and March 19 from noon-9pm. The event opens one hour early for wholesale buyers and VIP guests.

Even in its first year, we’ve had an amazing response to Style X and are working hard to make sure we create an event that truly reflects what is next in style and fashion in the world. Just as SXSW Music is selective in the artists and bands getting accepted for official showcases, we are being selective in building this show. Is there a performance or music aspect to Style X?

Yes, DJs will be performing during the fashion shows and those performing will be announced closer to the event.

Are there fashion shows happening at Style X?

Yes, we will host four fashion shows, two each day, and information about these shows will be provided at a later date.
