    Thundercat: "Heartbreaks + Setbacks"

Any discussion of bassist/vocalist Stephen Bruner has to mention his astonishing chops, but that's likely served as a dealbreaker for Thundercat as much as a selling point. After all, the thumb-poppin', fretless corndogging of Jaco Pastorius, Flea and Les Claypool have largely formed the public's idea of what " sick bassist, bro " entails. But fortunately, "Heartbreaks + Setbacks", the first single from his forthcoming Apocalypse (out July 9 on Brainfeeder ), portrays Bruner as a grounded human being with astronomic abilities...more at pitchfork.com

Thundercat: "For Love I Come" (George Duke cover)

Last time we heard from Thundercat in the Playlist , it was for his guest vocal on the Flying Lotus track "MmmHmm" . As well as being a highlight from Cosmogramma , that track really felt like the two of them hit on something special. It's good to hear them picking up the thread on Thundercat's George Duke cover "For Love I Come", from his forthcoming solo record. This song occupies a similar space to "MmmHmm" with its late-night astral wheeze, but it dives even deeper into the world of detail. Shorn of drums for most of the track, FlyLo's production is ....[from The Golden Age of the Apocalypse , due this fall from Brainfeeder ]

An artist by the name of Thundercat covering a song titled "For Love I Come" nearly sounds too epic for expectations. I mean, don't you just start thinking of some intergalactic quest to rescue a princess on a far off moon? Yeah? Well, the song lives up to any fantastic imagery you were piecing together in your mind. First things first,Thundercat is an absolutely insane bass player. Give the track just one listen and you'll understand why Flying Lotus has been repping him so hard. To say that Thundercat's sound is the sound of sensuality, I guess would be hitting the nail right on the head. After hearing his silk-sheets cover of "For Love I Come", he teases us with another track, "Daylight" off the Fly-Lo produced album entitled The Golden Age of Apocalypse (due out August 30). The song is a beautiful combination of Thundercat's finger-gliding bass and Fly-Lo's glitchy electronics, creating a sound for this artist that is becoming completely his own. There is plenty of awe-inspiring moments on Thundercat's debut album The Golden Age of The Apocalypse . Sometimes, the album sounds so good, you have to scratch your head. Fellow Brainfeeder artist Flying Lotus posted an additional song not found on the album to his Soundcloud. "200 TB" is another instrumental perfect for your usual travels into outerspace. This one was produced by FlyLo and also features pianist Austin Peralta. Thundercat - $200 TB prod.Flying Lotus ft. Austin Peralta by Flyinglotus more at elbo.ws
