The Guitartown/Conqueroo Kickoff Party, to be held Wed., March 14 from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Dogwood (formerly Mother Egan’s), 715 W. 6th St., is one of the oldest and most prestigious unofficial parties held during SXSW week.
Known for the biggest names and most buzzed-about emerging talent in roots music, you can always count on a surprise or two (this year Thomas Dolby!) Guitartown/Conqueroo is a joint effort of Austin music enthusiast/promoter Lil Deb and Cary Baker, president of the L.A.-based music publicity company Conqueroo.
This year, look for such monsters of rock ‘n’ roots music as Ruthie Foster, The dB’s (original lineup), James McMurtry, Shurman, Henry Wagons , Nakia (from NBC’s The Voice), the Hobart Brothers (Freedy Johnston, Susan Cowsill & Jon Dee Graham), Steve Poltz, The Silos, Dash Rip Rock, Fastball’s Miles Zuniga, Deadman, American Aquarium, and, parking his steampunk “time capsule” vehicle on West 6th Street, the legendary founder of electronica Thomas Dolby (who has an Americana song or two in his trick bag!)
Although attended by a who’s who of SXSW denizen (a&r executives, press and the odd NPR producer), Guitartown/Conqueroo Kickoff Party is free and open to the public. Park your own steampunk vehicle on the street and come on down! - Artists
