There are usually small cover charges on the weekends, but weekday shows are usually free. February 21, 2012To snag a spot on The Velv’s open mic lineup, you’ll have to visit their site and submit — and there’s no guarantee you’ll make it onto the list of 33 comics who get between 3 and 10 minutes on the legendary Sixth Street stage every Thursday. The show starts at 9:30 and usually wraps up after midnight, and it’s well worth it to stick around to see Austin’s best comics testing out new material.
