SPECIAL THANKS TO JARETTE MOATS

Maurice and Barry Gibb were commissioned by producer David Puttnam to provide the soundtrack for this long-lost gem -- scripted by Alan Parker -- that re-united young actors Mark Lester and Jack Wild (co-stars of OLIVER!) in a story about pre-teen pals at a British school. If you forgot what junior high school was like, this film will remind you! School cafeterias, gymnasium dances, social cliques, overbearing teachers and parents, and getting in trouble! In South London, two lonely classmates of opposite backgrounds become good friends. Daniel (Lester) is well-bred but neglected by his parents; and Ornshaw (Wild) is an aggressive cynic who lives with his impoverished grandfather. During the course of their many misadventures, Daniel and Ornshaw visit Piccadilly Circus and later get thrashed by their teacher for not doing their homework. Their friendship is affected when Daniel becomes attracted to Melody Perkins (Tracy Hyde). Resentful that Daniel is spending so much time with Melody, Ornshaw joins the other students in jeering at the young couple, and eventually goads Daniel into a fist-fight. When Daniel wins, the two boys come to a new understanding. While playing hooky from school at the sea-shore, Daniel and Melody realize they are in love, and decide to get married. When the headmaster and parents respond to their marital intentions with disbelief and ridicule, the other students see Melody and Daniel as rebels and resolve to help them.

Maurice Gibb became closely involved in the music for the film and remained very proud of his contribution to the score.
