The Kinks are the unsung heroes of pop music. Their early singles were the earliest examples of the proto-punk that the Troggs and the Stooges would perfect. After being banned from the U.S. in the mid 60s, Kinks genius Ray Davies began writing incredibly dense, layered, and catchy pop tunes. Village Green Preservation Society gave birth to the British guitar band sound (see Blur, Oasis). With about three decades of material to draw from, it is no wonder so many bands are participating in their tribute at Emo's this weekend.
