3 People & 1 All-Star Like this Event. I Like It
(8:30 doors, 9:30 show)
The best indie rock show that the club has all month. Kicking things off are The Dirty Hearts, a brand new rock band in town with a brand new recording...imagine if Blondie rolled around in some Texas mud and perhaps you'd have something along the lines of these Hearts. Sexy, suggestive lyrics sung in deadpan female/male harmony with hooky synths and rhythms. The Last Gasp are up next, pulling from influences such as Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown and The Flaming Lips to create a sound that has elements of both twang and new psychedlia...and for those of you that don't know, the band features 3 old members of the defunct-but-hardly-forgotten Good Looks. The Midgetmen do the drunk punk/indie rock thing better than anybody..TX version of JVGVB, anyone? Closing is the best pop band in Austin, period...yes, period. The Mercers combine elements of twang and rock bluster to sound like a TX version of The Who and Echo and the Bunnymen, but with a much snappier sense of humor. Peter Wagner is one of the
best lyricists and singers in this town.
