The Skatalites, a living legend, were among the original pioneers of Ska. From the Studio One sessions in Kingston the band found favor with the British Mod scene and crossed over to pop with the hit 'Guns Of Navarone', then presided over the shift from Ska to Rocksteady. If you're a ska and/or reggae lover and you've never seen the Skatalites, you must see this show. Austin's own Rokkatone is an acoustic roots reggae band wielding instruments you'd find in a Jamaican street band: steel drum, melodica (a hand-held keyboard), acoustic guitar, upright bass, trombone, hand percussion, and a sparse drum set that includes three soup cans strapped to the piccolo snare drum. Opening up the show, risen from the ashes of Los Skarnales, we have a slammin' new ska band from Houston, Ryan Scroggins & The Trenchtown TXans. Winston will be cooking and the bands will be too.
