What is It's My Park! Day?

It’s My Park! Day is an annual community service day focused on improvements to Austin’s park system. This year, we hope to have 1,500 volunteers and parks all over Austin. You'll get a super-cool tee shirt, a goodie bag, and a chance to make a difference at a park near you!

Past projects have included:

  • Painting the playgrounds at Battle Bend and Onion Creek parks
  • Building trails at Convict Hill Quarry Park
  • Creating erosion-control structures at Pease Park
  • Improving disc-golf facilities at Mary Moore Searight and Pease parks
  • Repairing signs and benches at Northstar Greenbelt
  • Improving trails at Turkey Creek
  • Picking up a major dumping area at Walnut Creek
  • And many more

What does a project leader do?

As a project leader, you will organize and supervise a park improvement project at the park of your choice. Austin Parks Foundation helps every step of the way. Tasks include:

  • Planning project, obtaining supplies and communicating with the city Parks and Recreation Department (We'll provide contacts and advice.)
  • Planning fun side activities, such as a picnic, game, or music, if you so desire
  • Recruiting volunteers (We'll also provide volunteers through our web site)
  • Overseeing the event day (And handing out the tee shirts and snacks we'll provide!)
  • Making sure the project is completed and cleaned up after the event

Projects in need of leaders:

We invite you to create your own project - but we've got a few ideas you are welcome to borrow. Give us a call at 477-1566 if you'd like to take on one of these projects:

  • Far West off-leash area - mulch and tend bench area, restore erosion near Shoal Creek Blvd and Stoneway Dr.
  • Roberta Crenshaw Bridge - clean railings (good for a small group or youth group)
