TX Doc Tour: AUSTIN: PAST AND PRESENT
Director Karen Kocher live for Q&A!
The history of the city of Austin is wonderfully presented in Karen Kocher’s documentary AUSTIN PAST AND PRESENT, primarily designed to be an “interactive digital history” for kiosks around town and for home/school/library computers. It is far more than the usual dry history full of dates and grand White male-dominated events. Instead, what unfolds in Kocher’s work is a rich and varied study of the various people – individuals and ethnic/religious communities – who have made Austin the fascinating and vibrant place it is. Using drawings, maps, paintings, photographs, and rare film footage, Kocher’s documentary proves that the creation of this city that we love has never been a smooth or easy process.
