MADEWELL AUSTIN OPENS AT THE DOMAIN

NEW YORK CITY - J.Crew Group Inc. (NYSE:JCG) will open its third Madewell shop on Friday, March 9th, 2007 at the new Domain in Austin, Texas, just in time for SXSW.  Inspired by the New Bedford, Massachusetts work wear company founded in 1937, Madewell is a collection of real, honest women’s clothes that speak for themselves: not too trendy, not too girly, just cool clothes infused with a modern upbeat attitude.  It’s an edgy take on casual with a few vintage details and a modern twist.

Millard Drexler, J. Crew Group Chairman and CEO, who acquired the Madewell name just before joining J. Crew in 2003, says "Madewell started as a fun idea that has grown into an assortment of great clothes that look good now, and will continue to look good five years from now.  At the end of the day, it’s about great style, design and attitude.”

“We have been thinking long and hard about the perfect location for a new Madewell store and felt that Austin was the ideal place. Austin has an energy, ease and style where everyone would love Madewell.” Says Kin Lee, Head designer.   Madewell has a cool, wearable and sexy style.  “It has its own unique look, attitude and feel. It’s laid back cool and casual. The pieces are timeless and can be worn with anything.”

Madewell Austin will feature the most coveted Madewell pieces everyone’s talking about: the “best” garment-dyed and white denim, sexy t-shirts, the vintage “stripes” collection, washed “boyfriend” shirts and “wear around town” dresses. “These are not looks for teenagers,” said Drexler.  “I think there’s been a real void at retail for subtly timeless clothing with a bit of an edge while still retaining a classic sensibility and integrity.”

Madewell has also created exclusive partnerships with a hand-selected group of designers including Philip Crangi, a New York City jewelry designer, and Havaianas, the famous Brazilian flip-flop created in 1962.
