Sangeet Millennium presents a multimedia/multisensory event, the second of its Ragamala Painting and Music series, at the Carver Cultural Center Auditorium. Monsoon Mehfil: An Intimate Celebration of India’s Music and Dance presents the gamut of the performing arts, referred to as Sangeet in Sanskrit-based languages of India. The evening will include Kathak dance, which combines delicately stylized gestures and facial expressions, vigorous footwork, flamboyant spins, and evocative mime; vocal music, whose words tell the stories danced and melodies enhance their moods; the music of two string instruments, the lustrous sitar and the soulful sarangi; and the percussion music of tabla, the heartbeat of the dancer’s footwork.
