As the house producer at Stiff Records, Nick Lowe helped shape the early output of Elvis Costello, The Damned, and The Pretenders in addition to throwing his own wickedly cool pop daggers. After the ’80s, Lowe traded new wave for roots-rock and—with the new At My Age—full-fledged country, but he still earns bragging rights as a “Godfather Of Punk” for reviving the three-minute rock single, as well as penning barbed classics like “(What’s So Funny ’Bout) Peace, Love, And Understanding?” Given Lowe’s extensive catalog, the musicians set to pay homage here—including tribute band The Lowelies, Elvis Costello cover act The Costellophones, Ron Flynt and Eric Hisaw, and “hoot night king” Paul Minor—should have plenty to choose from. As a bonus, Yep Roc will be giving away copies of At My Age, and the Alamo Drafthouse will screen a collection of rare Lowe videos. www.theonion.com
