MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to protect and preserve Austin's most precious resource: Town Lake and the Town Lake Corridor (TLC). We support responsible development along the TLC while promoting public awareness of the City's highest regulatory standards. We advocate for strong adherence to current City code, especially the Waterfront Overlay established in 1986. Our goal is to maintain the integrity of the TLC for all of Austin. SaveTownLake.org is a Texas non-proft corporation. THE ISSUE Buildings are required to be set back 200 feet from Town Lake according to the Waterfront Overlay Ordinance. Click here to read the current Overlay Ordinance. Developers are requesting variances in order to build closer and closer to the waterfront with ever greater heights. Critcal votes are taking place throughout 2007/8 on increasing number of new construction projects on and around the Town Lake Corridor. The precedent-setting variances and zoning changes must be stopped in order to preserve the essence of Town Lake. OUR CONCERNS Town Lake is literally, by geography, and figuratively, by ambience, the heart of Austin. This corridor is flanked by downtown, the Long Center for the Performing Arts, the Palmer Events Center and by some of the city’s oldest neighborhoods – Bouldin, Barton Hills, Old West Austin, Travis Heights, Rainey Street. The new Austin City Hall overlooks the lake. Office buildings, hotels, restaurants, apartments and condominiums join open space in cradling the lake. >>more COMMUNITY SUPPORT South RIver City Citizens Zilker Neighborhood Association Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association
