The Film:
A Tribute to the Original, Traditional, One-Hundred-Percent, Red-Blooded, Two-Fisted, All-American Christmas...

A Christmas Story has become an annual holiday classic, one to revisit along with It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Deftly directed by the late Bob Clark and based on the childhood memoirs of humorist Jean Shepherd, A Christmas Story is filled with wry, deadly accurate and gently nostalgic comic sensibility that shines through in this kid's-eye-view of an all-American Christmas in the 1940s. All little Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) wants under the tree on Christmas morning is an Official Red Ryder 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. He not only wants it, he's consumed with an aching desire for it. Unfortunately, his mother (Melinda Dillon) repeatedly crushes his dreams with the familiar, harsh mantra: "You'll put your eye out!" The comic performance by the late, great Darren McGavin as Ralphie's "old man" is just one of the countless charms of this paragon of family comedy.

2007 Marked the untimely death of director Bob Clark, and we are dedicating this screening to his memory.

The Event:
In November of 2006, the Christmas Story House was renovated back to it's original movie glory and is now open for tours. To celebrate the opening of this slice of movie-geek heaven, we are co-presenting a "Christmas in August" celebration at the house. Come early and take the tour and as sunset approaches, we'll start the snowmaking (yes, snowmaking) at about 7:30 PM, when we will kick off the "shoot your eye out" Red Ryder B-B gun challenge, where those with a steady hand will win "major awards." The daring can also compete in the Lifebuoy challenge, and there will be plenty of rich, chocolaty Ovaltine on hand for everyone to chase the Lifebuoy taste away.

Before the film we will feature a series of trailers for other vintage Christmas films and then on to the feature presentation. After the movie, stick around for a Q&A with cast members Zack Ward (Scut Farkus), Scotty Schwartz (Flick), Yano Anaya (Grover Dill) and Ian Petrella (Ralphie's little brother Randy). .

Following the screenings, select attendees will be invited to join the cast for Peking Duck and cocktails at the Dewar's Christmas Story after-party.
