Opening Reception: Thursday, August 9, 6 – 8 pm

Women & Their Work presents new work by Texas artist Katherine Bash who is currently working in London. Bash views the making of art through the lens of science and combines the role of artist and investigator. She observes patterns in the natural world and links them to philosophical, linguistic, and scientific theories. Broken Symmetries is informed by her years of research manifested in photographs, drawings and text. Bash’s photographs are at once arresting and beautiful, altering the viewer’s perspective in order to expand their perception of the world.  Her work seamlessly crosses disciplines; her photographs are poetic, drawings scientific and writings visually stimulating. All disciplines work together to explore the relationships between the natural world, geometric symmetries, and symmetries of thought.

Katherine Bash received her MFA in Design in 2004 and her BA in Biology in 1997 from the University of Texas at Austin. Her work has been exhibited across Texas and the southwest. She has traveled extensively in pursuit of her scientific and artistic endeavors. Bash is currently working toward her PhD at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. While in London she is collaborating with renowned vision neuroscientist, Dr. Beau Lotto, whose research interests include complex systems, vision science, and art.
