1 Person & 1 All-Star Like this Event. I Like It
The Nueva Onda Movie Nights announces a night of two short films on Thurs., August 9th! We'll have virtual Q&A with filmmaker James Cotton after the show.
Also, come early for our happy hour specials -- all beers $2 and tacos are just $1 -- from 4-7 p.m.!
AUSTIN STORIES, EPISODE 3 - If the Seinfeld crew lost one major character and half their money, they'd be the East Coast version of MTV's "Austin Stories." This 1997 critical and ratings hit only lasted 12 episodes, but it introduced us to the sharply-written, deadpan slacker friends Laura, Chip, and Howard. Don't miss a chance to see it, and Austin as it was 10 years ago.
In this episode, we ask these questions: Would scam-master Howard rob Laura to impress a Eurobabe? And does Chip really smell like diapers?
"...first-rate... Austin Stories has carved out its own place as an amiable, unslick alternative to conventional sitcoms." - Caryn James, NY Times
HUNKY DORY - Nick and Bill work together and they both have woman troubles. Nick's a bright college student who's surrounded by shapely distractions. Meanwhile, Bill gets knocked out of commission by some kind of bug. When he gets back to normal, his girlfriend Barbara has stopped talking to him; all she says is he wants to move out.
Also, Bill's an octegenarian drifter and Nick has cerebral palsy. They're both employed by Work Inc., a truly remarkable California office that helps handicapped and disadvantaged people find their niche. This unique documentary, helmed by ex-Austinite James Cotton, has been shown at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, Raytheon Corporation, and the Sacramento Live Film Fest. And yes, Nueva Onda is handicapped accessible.
Future shows:
- September 13 - LASTING IMAGES, the documentary about wildly diverse burial/memorial methods.
- October 11 - Our Halloween show and last of the year! LUCY IN DISGUISES, a short doc about the inimitable S. Congress costume shop. DEAD THINGS, a Quay Brothers-esque decent into darkness. And more!
