This free John Waters marathon brought to you by www.newline.com,
distributors of the John Waters Collection.

The Event: In Baltimore, famed stomping ground of crowned prince of bad taste John Waters, we will be featuring a dusk-til-dawn drive-in marathon of some of his finest work. From his breakout film Pink Flamingos (1972) to his crossover to Hollywood fame, Hairspray (1988). Before each of the features, we'll screen an assortment of vintage exploitation trailers.

The first 250 people in to the show will get a free, limited edition ODORAMA card, an essential aid for enjoying Polyester to its full potential. Every visitor to the Dusk-til-Dawn drive-in marathon will receive a complimentary John Waters barf bag, because as the master says, "To me, bad taste is what entertainment is all about. If someone vomits watching one of my films, it's like getting a standing ovation."

For those attendees from out of town who want to immerse themselves in the complete John Waters experience before the show, we will be posting a downloadable map of the filming locations from his sizable film canon. Check back to this site closer to the screening to download the map.

The Films:
Film #1: Hairspray
Dir. John Waters, 1988, PG, 92 min
'Pleasantly Plump' teenager Tracy Turnblad achieves her dream of becoming a regular on the Corny Collins Dance Show. Now a teen hero, she starts using her fame to speak out for the causes she believes in, most of all integration. In doing so, she earns the wrath of the show's former star, Amber Von Tussle, as well as Amber's manipulative, pro-segregation parents (Debbie Harry and Sonny Bono!) The rivalry comes to a head as Amber and Tracy vie for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963. Now also a smash Broadway play (which swept the 2003 Tony Awards), Hairspray is a fabulous treat in it's original cinematic incarnation.

Film #2: Polyester
Dir. John Waters, 1981, R, 86 min
Francine Fishpaw is a upper middle class suburban housewife in Baltimore. Unfortunately for this "good Christian woman", the money to support her lifestyle comes from her husband's porno theater, her son is the notorious "Baltimore Stomper", her daughter is knocked up by a local hoodlum, her husband is having an affair with his secretary, and the neighbors are protesting.
Film #3: Desperate Living
Dir. John Waters, 1977, R, 90 min
A rich housewife murders her husband with the help of her overweight maid, and the two go on the run, ending up in Mortville, a "town" providing refuge for criminals, which is actually a homeless community built into a garbage dump. They shack up with a lesbian ex-wrestler and her murderess lover, before running into the tyrannical Queen Carlotta, ruler of Mortville.
Film #4: Pink Flamingos
Dir. John Waters, 1972, R, 93 min
"An exercise in poor taste"
Sleaze queen Divine lives in a caravan with her mad hippie son Crackers and her 250-pound mother Mama Edie, trying to rest quietly on their laurels as 'the filthiest people alive'. But competition is brewing in the form of Connie and Raymond Marble, who sell heroin to schoolchildren and kidnap and impregnate female hitchhikers, then selling the babies to lesbian couples. Finally, they challenge Divine directly, and battle commences.
To celebrate their 40th Anniversary in 2007, New Line Cinema is relaunching www.newline.com and hosting several events (including this screening). Check out their amazing collection online, which of course includes the John Waters DVD Box Set.
