When The Vain disbanded, Austin not only lost the best collection of Nikki Sixx haircuts in town, it also lost one of its finest purveyors of sleazy, Faces-meets-Stones rock ’n’ roll. Fortunately, lead singer Jesse Vain rebounded with A Few Nice Things, picking up where his former eponymous group left off and busting out another batch of raunchy stompers reeking of cigarettes, whiskey, and never-washed leather pants. Opener Alright Tonight is the side project of Those Peabodys’ similarly retro-minded Clarke Wilson, who ditches the skunkweed ’70s rawk of his primary outfit for a trip back to the power pop of the ’60s.
