When it comes to that adage “Dying is easy, comedy is hard,” Chad Daniels has tested his mettle on the latter portion of that maxim--and proven quite hearty. For example, after trying his hand at open mic nights in Minneapolis, his first career move to speak of was becoming the house emcee at the Westward Ho in Grand Forks, North Dakota. This meant living in a tiny room in a part of the country where the winters are unrelentingly harsh--a region as close to Canada as you can get with out technically being in Canada--performing a half dozen shows a week, hosting karaoke night after the comedy shows. Not for wimps, certainly. And Chad not only survived this tough, demanding regimen, he flourished. He’s rock-solid and tough--do you honestly think there’s any weather or club/audience scenario that could faze Chad now?--and has built on this strong foundation with considerable road work at clubs, colleges and other venues, developing into a very fine, very funny comic. The upshot, in the last few years, is that he wound up a finalist in Comedy Central’s “Laugh Riots” national comedy competition, he performed in Montreal at the prestigious Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival, and he appeared on “The Late, Late Show With Craig Kilborn.” With what he’s already accomplished--and the horrible, arctic conditions he contended with to pay his dues--do you think there’s anything that could prevent Chad Daniels from continuing down this path toward becoming a highly accomplished, highly successful comedian?
