Singer/songwriter Roger Clyne became known in the '90s as the front man for Mercury Records' The Refreshments. In 1996, their album Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big and Buzzy, and their hit single and MTV video "Banditos," received major airplay. Clyne wrote and recorded the theme to the Fox TV animated series "King of the Hill."

In 1997, after three albums, the Refreshments called it quits and Clyne began experimenting with Americana and Latin beats.

In 1999, Clyne formed Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers with drummer P.H. Naffah, guitarist Steve Larson, bassist Danny White, and ex-Gin Blossoms guitarist Scott Johnson. They introduced a twangy hard rock on their debut CD Honky Tonk Union, and toured the Southwest and Mexico for over a year. They soon released their live album Real to Reel, which includes performances recorded by Tom Petty engineer Robert Scovill.

Clyne's 2002 studio release Sonoran Hope & Madness, combines a "sultry mix of folk and country."

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers are the only independent band to break the Billboard Internet top 10 twice. They were nominated for Best Unsigned Band Online by Yahoo! Online Music Awards.
