Capital T Theatre Company presents
Happy Days by Samuel Beckett
Starring Katherine Catmull
October 4-20
A middle-aged woman, Winnie, finds herself increasingly submerged in a mound of earth. An incurable optimist, she uselessly follows the daily routine of her life. Over the passage of time, her few possessions gradually dwindle, and her only human companion becomes more distant. HAPPY DAYS, described as one of Nobel Laureate Samuel Beckett’s “most cheerful” plays, explores humanity’s tragic struggle for hope and the cruel humor of time and existence, themes for which Beckett (WAITING FOR GODOT) is best known and celebrated.

Capital T is proud to present Beckett’s final full length play, not seen on an Austin stage in over 20 years, in this limited engagement of nine performances. Capital T’s production of HAPPY DAYS features two of Austin’s finest veteran actors, Katherine Catmull and Travis Dean, under the direction of Capital T Artistic Director, Mark Pickell.
About the Cast
Katherine Catmull is a member of Hyde Park Theatre and the Refraction Arts Project. She has received numerous Austin Critics Table and B. Iden Payne nominations and awards for acting. The Austin Chronicle named Katherine a "Most Valuable Player" in their guide to Austin stage actors citing her ability to "embody a role so effortlessly, so comprehensively, it may be more poetry than craft." Some of her recent credits include I/O (Refraction Arts Project), THRUSH (Salvage Vanguard Theatre), THE WATER PRINCIPLE (Hyde Park Theatre), FLESH AND THE DESERT (University of Texas), SPIN (Refraction Arts Project), QUAKE (Hyde Park Theatre), HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE (State Theatre), and DINNER WITH FRIENDS (State Theatre).
Travis Dean was last seen on the stage in the much acclaimed UP IN THE OLD HOTEL (Refraction Arts Project), for which he won a B. Iden Payne award for his portrayal of the colorful Joe Gould. He also recently created the fight choreography for MY FAVORITE YEAR (Zilker Summer Musical). When he’s not acting or creating fight choreography, he works for the Texas Film Industry as a prop-maker among other things.

This may well be the most “upbeat” of Beckett’s plays, but it’s every bit as existential, as focused on death and on life as something we endure as we progress inexorably toward our ultimate fate, as any of his bleaker works.more at austinchronicle.com
