The 11/2 Smashing Pumpkins concert has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 13. Tickets will be honored at the door on 11/13.
Zeitgeist–the sixth Smashing Pumpkins album and first since 2000--doesn’t just capture the spirit of our times, as the title might suggest. Even more impressively, Zeitgeist is a heartfelt, ambitious and deeply felt piece of work that vividly recaptures the spirit of this great and influential rock band. The release of Zeitgeist represents a powerful rebirth and reaffirmation of the Smashing Pumpkins by two of its key members, main singer-songwriter and guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. about 1 year ago.A little over two years ago, Billy Corgan took out a full-page ad in a pair of Chicago newspapers to let the world know that he was planning to bring his Smashing Pumpkins back to life. It takes a big, bald head to make such a public spectacle of something that probably should have been negotiated in private, but even passive followers of the Pumpkins couldn’t have been surprised by the move. Treated like a God by his adoring fans and loathed with just as much passion by just about everyone else, Corgan is arguably the second-most important figure in the history of alternative rock, right behind the almighty Kurt Cobain. Dissect that however you like, but there’s no denying that Corgan continued to make engaging records long after Cobain lost his will to live, all the way through Zwan and his 2005 solo record. The new Zeitgeist may give fans more volume than interesting songs or original players—only Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamerberlin are left—but its pieces won’t sound out of place during the band’s stand at The Backyard.
