The live-mixing effort, which becomes the third touring enterprise that the duo have produced since 1999 (previous tours produced a pair of live discs--1999's "Brainfreeze" and last year's "Product Placement"), utilizes eight turntables, four mixers and two effects pedals, according to a short promotional video streaming at the MySpace site.
Cut Chemist--who previously worked with Los Angeles Latin funk act Ozomatli (appearing on the group's first two albums) and rappers Jurassic 5, released his first full-length solo album, "The Audience's Listening," in July of last year.
Davis, CA-born DJ Shadow released his third full-length effort, "The Outsider," last fall. The artist--whose real name is Josh Davis--released the groundbreaking "Entroducing ..." in 1996, a record that made the Guinness Book of World Records in 2001 under the entry "First Completely Sampled Album."

Posted 8 months ago.The tag team DJs take their amazing feats of live mixing on the road. Mash-ups are lovely, but nothing compares to hearing two DJs, four turntables (each!) and two loop pedals, to hear decades of musical history edited as-it-happens into body rhythms.

Extraordinary things happen when these two turntablists join forces. Their 1999 collaboration, Brainfreeze, whips up a masterful hourlong mix of the rarest funk 45s and now stands at legendary status among hip-hop heads and record nerds. The dynamic duo kicks off its Hard Sell tour in Austin with eight turntables, four mixers, two effects pedals, and a mess of the funkiest 45s you’ve never heard. Montreal turntablist Kid Koala opens. – Thomas Fawcett

Posted 8 months ago.genius: Is there anyone else on earth who could so deftly mix hip-hop beats with Russian classical music via four simultaneously active
turntables? If anyone can match such talents, of course, it’s the man behind Endtroducing—the 1996 classic that blurred the lines between crate-digging hip-hop and big-bang electronica—DJ Shadow. So you can rest assured that it will be positively mind-blowing when the two join forces for The Hard Sell, a brand-new set—composed of eight turntables, two guitar loop pedals, and a huge stack of 45s—that will follow in the furious, tag-teaming footsteps of the duo’s legendary 1999 live mix album, Brainfreeze.
Did anyone catch the Cut Chemist’s cameo in Juno?
