Jayhawks co-founder Mark Olson must have felt pretty rootless after his 2005 divorce from singer Victoria Williams, which also meant the end of his musical collaboration with her in The Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers. Olson spent much of the next two years traveling around Europe, where he wrote and recorded last year’s The Salvation Blues, his first true solo record. His pain was obviously a powerful source of inspiration—Olson sounds more focused here than he has in years. Look for a new album with fellow ex-Hawk Gary Louris a little later this year.
