It’s a little late in the game to be blatantly aping The Strokes, but there’s something about Canadian outfit Tokyo Police Club’s sketchy, scattered, sloshed take on choppy indie rock that makes one wish this was the direction Casablancas and crew took after their 2001 debut. Not even clichéd lyrics about microchips and robots (peppered, of course, with sassy handclaps) can dilute the inviting dementia of Tokyo Police Club’s EPs, A Lesson In Crime and the brand-new Smith. TPC has inked a deal with Saddle Creek, which will be issuing the band’s debut full-length, Elephant Shell, next month. The group plays here as part of a launch party for new social networking site Frrvrr.com with synth-poppers Til We’re Blue Or Destroy, The Laughing, and Freezepop, followed by more mash-up magic from Car Stereo (Wars).
