A bill of pure musique noir. Cleveland fourpiece This Moment in Black History furiously rocks this nation of assholes with perfectly old-school punk bred in D.C. A local threesome chunks lightbulbs in the trash: Former Clevelanders the Jungle Rockers Cool It Out in black Chuck Taylors, Attack Formation adds black humor to a mishmashable mix, and Camp X-Ray justifies black eyes. more at austinchronicle.com
Posted 3 months ago.If the high-strung hybrid of hardcore and strangled garage pumped out by This Moment In Black History sounds familiar, it’s because the Cleveland band has an obvious soulmate in Houston’s Fatal Flying Guilloteens, who have shared both stages and split EPs with them. But where the Guilloteens’ slice has only become sharper over the years, TMIBH seems to unravel more and more with each successive record; its last, 2006’s Steve Albini-produced It Takes A Nation Of Assholes To Hold Us Back, could barely contain all the frantic bursts of feedbacking guitar and experimental noise. But while TMIBH’s records may be baffling, occasionally derivative affairs, the live show—urgent, chaotic, and even poignant—is where the group truly comes into its own. Opening: The Jungle Rockers, Attack Formation, Camp X-Ray. (This Moment In Black History also plays Beerland on June 6.)
