Jennifer Herrema was one half of the influential rock band Royal Trux, and she's now continuing the legacy with RTX. Her voice is a mutaded hybrid of Mick Jagger and Courtney Love, kicking out riffs that are inspired by three decades of classic rock. Talented singer-songwriter-guitarist performs with his solid band Two Part Beast, and locals Abby Birds provide delightful pop ditties.

Last summer, RTX hit the same weekend as the Republic of Texas Biker Rally, and the L.A. sextet’s acid-washed gutter-rock odes to the 1980s couldn’t have been a more appropriate soundtrack. Singer Jennifer Herrema pulling white foxtails out of her purse for no apparent reason: priceless. JJ Got Live RaTX, the follow-up to last year’s Western Xterminator, drops in the fall. Fellow Los Angeleno Imaad Wasif invokes guitar-chug via 1970, touring the extend-o-jams of latest Strange Hexes with his band, Two Part Beast. Locals Abby Birds and the Gospel Truth open. more at austinchronicle.com
Posted 3 months ago.The latest incarnation of Jennifer Herrema, the raw, sleazy wasteoid who fronted Royal Trux, RTX doesn’t feature guitarist Neil Hagerty, though its mucked-up gutter-rock sound doesn’t drift too far afield. As Royal Trux, Herrema and Hagerty made some of the sludgiest, sloppiest rock ever heard. The group ultimately congealed into a more oiled machine, but last year’s Western Xterminator recalls some of the old band’s more abrasive moves while incorporating certain tricks culled from cock rock. Opening is the ongoing solo project of Imaad Wasif, a decent singer-songwriter who never seems to be able to outshine his provisional memberships in The New Folk Implosion and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Also playing: Abby Birds.
