Gaining greater access to loans and capital is consistently a top concern for small business owners. The City’s Small Business Development Program (SBDP) has just the event to put entrepreneurs’ minds at ease. The SBDP is hosting its annual “Meet the Lender” Business Loan Information Fair on August 5th, 2008. Meet the Lender is a free event and allows business owners to meet capital lenders face to face in an informal setting where they can gather information on lending programs. This year’s Meet the Lender event takes place at Palmer Events Center on Aug. 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. and will feature more than 40 community lenders, area banks, factoring firms and government loan programs including Greater Texas Federal Credit Union, Business Community Lenders of Texas, and OMNIBANK. Lending representatives will be on hand to provide small-business owners with the information needed to help procure a business loan. In addition to the trade show of lenders, the event will spotlight an information session, SBPD’s “Business Startup Orientation” a condensed version of the popular BizAid class offered on a regular weekly basis through the SBDP program. The BizAid Business Start-Up Orientation provides basic information and guidance to ensure the success of the small business owner. The material covered includes Personal Preparation, Research and Focus, Determining Structure, Building a Business Plan, and Execution. This hour session will be available to attendees at 4:30pm and 6pm. Elizabeth Schmitz, owner of AvantPearl.com, says the Meet the Lender event she attended gave her the knowledge and connections she needed in order to grow her business. “I established a relationship there with Chase Bank that led to a line of credit for my business,” Schmitz says. “That was quite beneficial and probably the first hurdle in starting a business.” Whether just starting out or expanding an existing business, entrepreneurs will find Meet the Lender a great opportunity to network and learn from area lenders. For more information or to register, call (512) 974-7800 or visit the SBDP website at www.cityofaustin.org/sbdp. The SBDP, a division of the City’s Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office, is committed to providing opportunities and resources to small businesses to help them grow and prosper in a competitive business environment.
