DIGABLE PLANETS, Phranchyze 1, Zeale 32 (outside)

New York's Grammy Award-winning Digable Planets made a huge breakthrough back in the early '90s when they released their debut album, featuring heavy use of jazz samples infused with hip-hop. The album became an instant hit, with the first single "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" hitting the top of the charts. After a breakup in the mid-90s no one was sure if we would ever get to see this trio on the same stage again, but the Planets have reunited and there is even rumor that a new album will drop soon. Don't miss out on their performance at Emo's with newcomers Zeale & Phranchyze.

<comment>Digable Planets seemed to come out of nowhere, made one album that won a Grammy, one album that was much cooler than the first and vanished soon after. more at www.austin360.com</comment>

<comment>Digable Planets’ story will likely be filed under “Blown Second Chances” in the annals of music history more at austin.decider.com</comment>
<comment>Percussion may be the class of instruments best suited to minimalism, since each note is an instantaneous hit. Steve Reich’s “Clapping Music,” performed here alongside four other Reich works, takes this idea to its logical conclusion: more at www.austinchronicle.com</comment>
